Meet Our Team
I’m Courtney Barrett, a wife and mother, a patient myself, and a passionate direct primary care physician! My business partner is husband, Jeff, who has always been a source of unwavering support and encouragement. We have one son, Landon, who joined the family in 2017. We are animal lovers throughout— home to six rescued dogs, two rescued cats, and a hamster named Waffles!
Our family is long rooted in service to others – Jeff was working as a Volunteer firefighter and Courtney was a Paramedic when they first met. He has worked in emergency telecommunications for over twelve years during my medical training and early years as a physician.
Through God’s grace and the encouragement of friends and family, we launched True Insight Direct Care in 2025 to serve the community of Raleigh, Wake Forest, and the surrounding areas.
Through our combined experiences, Jeff and I share a passion for bringing healthcare back to its roots: to truly caring for others, to treating community like family, and to helping others achieve health, happiness, and more fulfilled lives.
She is passionate about partnering closely with patients and helping people obtain their best health. She has been on both sides of the stethoscope and enjoys meeting people where they’re at and celebrating success during their health journey. She is passionate about preventative direct primary care and helping others with maintaining their best quality of life.
In addition to her work in healthcare, she serves as a board member for Hope & Vine, a Wake Forest–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting young women who have aged out of the foster care system by providing mentorship, employment assistance, and connections to essential community resources.
She enjoys traveling and experiencing other cultures, gardening, and spending time outside doing pretty much anything! You can always find her saying hello to a random dog she meets!

Courtney Barrett, D.O.
Dr. Courtney Barrett is a board certified internal medicine physician. She graduated summa cum laude in 2007 from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida with her bachelor’s in science with a focus on biology, chemistry, and psychology. She worked in emergency medical services as a paramedic before obtaining her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. She completed internal medicine residency at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
During rotations in training, she found herself enjoying all specialties, especially critical care medicine. Despite her skill and love of procedures, she found herself drawn most of all to the long term relationships she made with patients and families.
After relocating to Wake Forest, Dr Barrett started her career as a direct primary care physician with UNC Family Medicine in Wakefield and later in private practice in North Raleigh. She took a brief medical leave before returning to clinical care with Bionic Health in RTP, focusing on preventative, longevity care.
Jeff Barrett
Jeff also grew up in Syracuse, New York and has spent his life serving others in a variety of roles. His professional background includes restaurant management, medical warehouse work, and many years in public safety as a 911 and police dispatcher. He also volunteered for about five years as a firefighter just outside of Syracuse, NY, responding to more than 1,100 calls for service and earning numerous certifications and recognitions including Rookie of the Year.
In 2017, Jeff and his family relocated to North Carolina, where he spent several years as a stay-at-home parent the couple’s son, Landon. He later returned to public safety before transitioning in August 2025 to help support True Insight Direct Care full time.
Jeff is also a patient himself. After suffering a stroke in 2019 at the age of 36 and living with chronic back pain, he brings firsthand understanding, empathy, and advocacy to everything he does. His personal health journey, combined with a lifelong passion for service, helped inspire the creation of True Insight Direct Care alongside his wife, Courtney. Jeff handles the “back side” of the business and also helps out with patient care when not co-teaching Landon’s school.
Outside of work, Jeff enjoys bowling, cooking or baking, traveling (especially cruises), watching TV and movies, and spending time with the family’s six rescue dogs.
